The Cave

Saturday, March 19, 2011

I have fort envy. There, I said it. I have seen all these people's blogs about their cool forts and I have been down right jealous. This week I decided to do something about it. I made Cian a (somewhat rough) fort. He immediately called it the cave. I was good with that, we don't have a fort, we have a cave!

We had fun hiding from the bad guys in the cave and then running about and shooting them. Steve was gung ho for letting Cian sleep in but I went all protective mom on him so we had to take it down before bedtime. It did make an encore appearance later in the week though.

Pizza Night

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

I have to say that we have pizza night a lot. So often in fact that the Dominos guy comments when we order more or less than usual. Yep, we are feeding our child good quality dinners. Well this week I decided to have our own home-made pizza night. We had a lot of veggies that I needed to get rid of so I made a mish mosh of toppings.

Our pizza included:
  • Turkey Pepperoni
  • Green Onions
  • Roasted Red Peppers
  • Mushrooms
  • Tomatoes

The fun thing about making pizza at home is we can have three "types"of pizza in one. I love mushrooms but no one else does so they just landed on my portion.

Well as I was chopping up the toppings I turned the oven on to pre-heat. I got the pizza all put together and noticed the oven still wasn't pre-heated. This is when my genius husband pipes in that we can't use the oven because the element is broken. Duh! I was all ready to take the pizza to the neighbors to cook when he reminded me that we had a toaster over that could bake as well. What would I do without him??

The pizza was yummy, but judging by Cian's face I am not sure he thought so...

Tinkerbell Birthday Party

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

I know I have been absent from blogging lately but it is because I was doing a lot of crafting last week. I was working some stuff for my friend Anne's daughter's birthday party. It was a tinkerbell theme so I was excited a. because I love tinkerbell and b. because I got to craft girly stuff! I made her a butterfly to hang up with a 3 on it. (You guessed it, she was turning 3). I also made a happy birthday Kali pennant banner. (which ended up being two banners). Then finished it off with 50 tissue paper butterflies and some tissue paper poms.

What party is complete without lots of candy? I brought over my mason jars and they were perfect for goodies.

The banner. This was fun to make, but I sat on my hot glue gun in the process. The burnt butt is not so fun...

New diaper cake...

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

This week I sold my first diaper cake to my friend and intern at work Penny! She was going to a baby shower for her best friend and she said the cake was a hit! I have two more to make this week, praise Jesus!

This one had 40 pampers diapers, newborn and size one, three receiving blankets, a huge bottle of baby shampoo and monogrammed letters. I had fun paining the letters and Cian tried to help a little, resulting in only a small smudge.

Mommy Monday: Muddy Monday

Sunday, March 6, 2011

If you guys live in TN you know that we have had quite a bit of rain lately. Last Monday we had some crazy rain and some tornado warnings around lunch/nap time. Let me tell you how fun this was trying to get a two year old who already doesn't like to sleep to take a nap. Well when we woke up from napping it was not raining but still pretty wet outside. I was SICK of sitting around inside but it was quite muddy and yucky. What are a mommy and biggy boy to do? Well when handed lemons make lemonade. We decided (I decided) to head outside and play in the mud.
Cian was a little timid at first, wanting me to grab his hands and lift him over the mud. Soon he warmed up to it and saw just how fun splishing and splashing in some nice warm (ok pretty cold) mud can be.

Easing in

Muddy feet and legs (I should point out that I didn't put socks on him so he could feel the squish but it ended up being kind of cold).

Taking off and running through the mud

Cian did not want to stop moving for any photos.

My feet with ran boots and pajama pants. (Yep, in the middle of the afternoon).

Diaper Cakes for Special Kids

Monday, February 28, 2011

Many of you know that I run for Team ASK and raise money for Special Kids throughout the year. (i.e. my crazy self running a marathon). Well I am working to raise $1100 for Special Kids by the end of April this year. Instead of just writing friends and family again (yep, I know you are all glad about that) I have decided to make diaper cakes and sell them with all the proceeds going to Special Kids. To find out more information about them look here.

Diaper cakes are a really fun gift for a baby shower or for a new mommy. They can be a great decoration and are completely practical and functional! I am selling three different size "cakes" that range from small to very large. Here are some examples of diaper cakes I have made:

The pricing for these fun gifts are as follows:

One Tier Cake: $25 (depending on embellishment)
27 diapers
1 receiving blanket
mini bottle or baby wash
decorative ribbon
cake topper or monogram

Two Tier Cake: $40 (depending on embellishments)
50 diapers
2 receiving blankets
decorative ribbon
bottle or baby wash
monogram or themed items

Three tier cake: $60-$75 (depending on embellishments)
70 diapers
3 receiving blankets
bottle, baby wash, or sparkling cider to toast with after the baby is born
monogram and or themed items

I will make each "cake" to order and can theme it around the nursery or anything you want. They can be made for a boy or a girl or gender neutral. Please call or e-mail me to purchase one or let me know what you would like. Remember each diaper cake is for Special Kids and your gift will also help a family in need!

I am making two this week so I will post photos of those as I am finished. Thank you!

What's a girl to do??

Sunday, February 20, 2011

Cian is taking a late nap and though I should be doing the oogles of housework I need to do I chose to search through the attic and play around on Etsy. While in the attic I came across some cute old notes Steve wrote me when we started dating. Ahhh, young love. I won't divulge what they said because I think he got embarrassed even reading them. That is not to say they were dirty, just cute. It made me smile remembering when we first started dating and how new and exciting everything was. I am so glad we started there and are right where we are in our journey together. I also found our Darth Mickey and Jedi Mickey from Disney Star Wars weekends in 2005. Score!

Perhaps my happiest find of the day were these adorable charms on Etsy from Wonderland Contraband. Just looking at them made me happy. Here were my favorites:

Nearly Headless Nick

Wesley and Buttercup

Elphaba

They are kind of so cute they make me squeal. I want some.
